Suicide Prevention Month at The Venue

05:30 pm to 07:00 pm
The Venue Fine Art & Gifts
http://www.Thevenuebloomington.com

September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and for the month, The Venue Fine Arts & Gifts’ Tuesday Evening Series, beginning September 8, will be dedicated to presentations about Suicide Awareness and Prevention.
Historically the death an artist is widely publicized with consideration and speculation, to a caring public. Yet, even though almost one in 5 people in the general population have been personally impacted by a suicide, the modern truth is that Suicide is often swept under the rug and not talked about. Recent data shows that suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the United States and has been on the rise for eight years in a row. Among 10-14 year olds it is the 3rd leading cause of death and among 15-34 year olds it is the 2nd leading cause of death.
On Tuesday evening, September 8, beginning at 5:30, the Venue will host a presentation by Local Therapist Ron Masters, MSW, LCSW, on the use of the Phoenix Protocol as a suicide prevention therapy.
Ron is a suicide survivor, having lost his only brother to suicide; he developed PTSD as a result of his loss. At age 40, Ron returned to school, and earned his MSW.
Ron has facilitated Suicide Prevention Support groups for over thirty years, and while he is an expert in talk theory as a preventative technique, he has learned that for many patients, talk therapy is frequently not enough. Ron has brought together three specific therapeutic techniques to craft a unique and effective treatment for suicide prevention, which he will discuss on September 8, 5:30 p.m. at The Venue.
