Nashville Villagescape Plein Air Paint-Out

As part of the Brown County Art Colony Weekend, the Brown County Art Guild is hosting a Villagescape Plein Air Paint-Out at 48 South Van Buren Street in Nashville, IN. This Paint-Out is open to all levels of artists, but the painting must be of the town of Nashville. Come to the Guild to register and then head out to find your spot!

The entry fee is $10 for Brown County Art Guild members and $15 for nonmembers. Prizes include $1,000 for First Place, $500 for Second Place, $250 for Third Place, and $125 for an Honorable Mention.

Monroe Lake Shoreline Cleanup!

A summer full of fun and recreation at Monroe Lake creates more than memories… it also results in a lot of trash! We need your help to clean up the mess and restore our lakeshore to an inviting habitat for both people and wildlife. We will be transporting people by boat to areas of the shoreline that are difficult to reach by other means.

• All volunteers must be at least 10 years old; ages 10-17 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is limited to 100 volunteers. Adult volunteers will be required to sign a DNR Volunteer Agreement.

• Registered volunteers should check in between 1p and 1:30p. Cleanup ends at 5:30p.

Midwest Pages to Prisoners will hold a New Volunteer Orientation event on Sunday, September 13, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Boxcar Books, located at 408 E. 6th St. in Bloomington.

Regular volunteers are needed to select reading material for and correspond with inmates from Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio, and several other states. During the New Volunteer Orientation session, attendees will learn more about the Midwest Pages to Prisoners organization, mission, day-to-day operation, and needs.

Writing through Trauma

This expressive writing class will be a supportive space for adult writers who are negotiating difficult topics, regardless of genre or experience. We will discuss writing our trauma from a safe space, self-care, critical reading, how to give and receive constructive criticism, what writing style works best for us and why, finding our voices, and point of view among other topics. At least 30 minutes of every session will be devoted to in-class writing. Writers are encouraged to share their work, but not required. Regular but brief out-of-class writing and reading will be assigned for in-class discussion. Maximum 15 participants. Minimum 4 registrants. All genders welcome. Some scholarships available.
