The Brown County Art Guild is reviving the Brown County Art Colony Weekend in collaboration with the Brown County History Center, the T.C. Steele State Historic Site, the Brown County Art Alliance, and the Brown County Playhouse. The events will take place beginning with the Opening Reception at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, September 11 and end with the Closing Reception at 2:00 p.m. at the Brown County Art Guild:

Bloomington Classical Guitar Society Ensemble.

Saturday, September 12, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the T.C. Steele State Historic Site– The 27th Annual Great Outdoor Art Contest and local tasting

Saturday, September 12, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Brown County Art Guild, Village Art Walk
featuring paintings by Larry Rudolech, Patricia Bartels, a retrospective of Fred Rigley, entertainment by the Sanderson family, and unframed paintings from the Great Outdoor Art

• This program is designed for intermediate/advanced paddlers. Beginning paddlers may participate ONLY IF they are accompanied in a canoe or tandem kayak by an intermediate/advanced paddler. No paddling instruction will be provided.

Explore a portion of Monroe Lake’s backwater with a knowledgeable guide! Our focus will be on the lake’s fascinating cultural history – you’ll learn about some of the families that once lived here, how the land came to be a reservoir, and visit some of the lingering remnants from those pre-reservoir days. 3 to 4 hours

Hoosier CrossFit & Habitat for Humanity Fitness CompetitionCommunity Workout

Gaining strength and stability, improving longevity, and empowering individuals are the goals for Habitat for Humanity and Hoosier CrossFit work toward daily. We are teaming up for the First Annual Sweating for Equity Competition, a fundraiser to benefit Habitat. The event will involve 3 different fitness tests including movements such as squats, pushups, rowing, running, kettlebell swings – but with a construction twist: some of the tests involve home construction items like paint cans and lumber. This will be a scored competition with prize packs for the winners.

Everyone from competitive athletes to those who enjoy fitness outside of CrossFit are encouraged to participate. We are offering 2 divisions: competitive and general.

The Competitive division will include Advanced skills, like pullups and power cleans, that you may see in traditional CrossFit workouts.

The general division will include basic skills that any fitness ability would be capable of performing like squats, pushups, running, and object carry.

1. Choose 4 friends (of any gender) to complete your team. All athletes who sign up by September 1st get a tee shirt.

2. Determine if you would like to participate in the competitive division or general division. You need to know the names of your teammates, their email address, and tee shirt size.

What Makes a Successful Story?

In this modern literature class, we will examine critical and commercial successes and failures among recent publications, including both short fiction and novel excerpts. A portion of each class will be spent practicing the literary devices and techniques we identify in our own writing. Completion of weekly reading assignments will be required for class participation. Students should expect to spend upwards of two hours on reading and writing between class sessions. Internet and email access will be necessary for materials access. The class is $125 per person. Attendance is limited to 15 participants and advance registration is required.
