Parlor Concert: Historic Music Ensemble

3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Wylie House Museum
http://libraries.indiana.edu/parlor-concert-historic-music-ensemble

This program, celebrating Thomas Jefferson’s birthday, is inspired by popular music in the British Empire and Early America. In the cozy Wylie House parlor, we explore the bawdy origins of our national anthem: “To Anacreon, in heaven […] The yellow-hair’d God and his nine lusty maids.” Join us as we juxtapose the high Enlightenment sounds of Handel with folk fiddle and popular song. Then, march to the tune of “Yankee Doodle” to the Wylie House Education Center after the concert for refreshments and period instrument demonstrations.

Les Muses du Dauphin: dynamic period performance of music in the Early Modern Era (1500-1789). Prof. Dawn Kalis (harpsichord), Christina Lynch (soprano), Sarah Cranor (violin), Sarah Huebsch (oboe).
