Monroe Lake is offering visitors an opportunity to check out different types of hunting, fishing, and water recreation at “Furs. Fins. Float. FUN!” on Saturday, September 26. The event takes place at Paynetown State Recreation Area from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

“September 26 is National Hunting and Fishing Day,” noted Jill Vance, Monroe Lake’s naturalist. “We designed this event to appeal to people of all ages and with all levels of experience. It will be a fun afternoon.”

The event schedule includes:

• Falconry Presentations: at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
• AHDA Retriever Dog Demos: at 2 p.m., 4 p.m., and 5 p.m.
• Open Fishing for Kids: from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
• Verein Deutsch–Drahthaar Dog Demos: at 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., and 5:30 p.m.
• Intro Seminar to Hunting Dog Training: at 3 p.m. (more details at bit.ly/huntingdog)
• Intro to Kayaking: at 3:15 p.m., 4:15 p.m., and 5:15 p.m.
• Wild Game Stew: from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The training seminar and the kayaking sessions are restricted to a limited number of people, and there is also a minimum age of 12 required for kayaking. There are no age or number restrictions for the other activities.

Event partners include the American Hunting Dog Association, the Verein Deutsch–Drahthaar Great Lakes Chapter, and the Indiana Division of Fish and Wildlife.

There is a Property Entrance Fee of $7 per vehicle ($9 per vehicle if you have an out-of-state license plate). All of the event activities are included at no additional charge.
